Despite reports of ugliness between Lindsay Lohan and America Ferrera on the set of Ugly Betty, Dina Lohan tells PEOPLE that her daughter “had fun” working on the show.

“It was just silly,” Dina Lohan said of the reports about her daughter battling on-set and off with Ferrara. “America’s a doll. And they said %26#91;Lindsay%26#93; brought a posse. It was my mother and myself, and %26#91;sister%26#93; Ali. It was not a posse. We had sushi and no one trashed the room.”

Dina adds that Lindsay doesn’t know why her six-episode guest stint on the ABC show was cut to four, but says the actress enjoyed her time there. “She had fun on Ugly Betty,” says Dina, who spoke with PEOPLE Monday at Animal Fair magazine’s Halloween Pet Costume Party in New York City. “It was long hours and when you’re on a movie set it’s a lot different. She’s not used to television, but it was fun.”

Adds sister Ali, “We just want Lindsay to be happy. Whatever she is happy doing, we’re happy with.”

Amid rumors of an unpretty rivalry on Ugly Betty between guest star Lindsay Lohan and star America Ferrera, Lohan’s agreed-upon six episodes have been cut to four, Page Six reports.

Reps from both sides, however, insist that everything is fine.

“Lindsay was scheduled for six episodes and is appearing in four but had a lovely time,” a Lohan spokesperson said.

“America is grateful to have had her on the show and thinks everyone should tune in to see how great the episodes are,” Ferrera rep Carrie Byalick said.

Producers of the ABC series tell PEOPLE, “Lindsay wrapped up her arc and is done filming. She did a great job and we enjoyed having her. Viewers can look forward to her episodes tonight and next week.”

According to a production source, Lohan and her people were so destructive that her dressing room had to be repainted. Lohan also refused to go on set before Ferrera did, according to the source.

Trouble erupted after one particular scene in which Ferrera’s character pulls down Lohan’s pants. A Lohan friend told Page Six Ferrera wasn’t supposed to pull down Lohan’s pants because it was a rehearsal. When she did, Lohan, who was only wearing a g-string, was embarrassed to the point of tears.

Lohan’s friend also said that the dressing room might have been wrecked by the cast of another show, and that the so-called entourage consisted of nothing more than Lohan’s manager, assistant, a sober companion and girlfriend Samantha

Ronson.

“America was mean to Lindsay. Producers give her too much power,” Lohan’s pal says. “Lindsay didn’t do the last two episodes because America didn’t like her and got her kicked off.”

If true, the debacle provides a handy retort for the cast of Gossip Girls, which Ferrera recently slammed for conditioning people “to be mean.”

America Ferrera says TV depicts female friendships in a skewed light.

“Like, if you’re watching The Hills or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes the way we act,” the Seventeen cover girl says in the magazine’s October issue.

“I mean, I love Blake %26#91;Lively%26#93;; she’s a wonderful friend of mine, but shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean.”

When it came to telling her TV colleagues that she and husband Jerry O’Connell would be having twins, Ugly Betty’s Rebecca Romijn handled the announcement quietly before the news went public.

Not that their reactions were subdued. “%26#91;We’re%26#93; so excited,” said Betty star America Ferrera at Monday’s New York City premiere of her movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

“I’m so happy for them,” gushed Ferrera, 24. “They’re going to be the best parents. I don’t think there could be a more wonderful father to girls.”

Vanessa Williams has even started shopping. “I’ve already gotten them organic cotton baby clothes from Green Babies to start them off right,” Williams, 45, told PEOPLE. “Rebecca is glowing, and Jerry will make a really fun daddy.”

“She was more excited than you can imagine. Jerry’s a great guy. And they laugh so much, and they have so much fun together,” added Becki Newton, who also noted that the stork seems to be an honorary cast member on the show.

Besides Romijn, Eric Mabius is expecting his second child come fall, and Christopher Gorham’s third is due in January.

Romijn’s ‘Mama-Bear Thing’

Costar Ana Ortiz says Romijn is “blissfully happy” to be expecting two babies. “She’s such a mom already. She has that Mama-Bear thing, always watching out for us, and she’s a hoot,” says Ortiz. And the dad? “Jerry is going to spoil them completely rotten.”

“They’re not going to be the uptight kind of parents, ‘You can’t do this, you can’t do that,’ ” ventured 14-year-old Mark Indelicato, who plays Justin Suarez on the show. “They’re going to be awesome parents. They love to have fun. But they still have boundaries. And they live in the coolest place ever in L.A.”

And, as the parents-to-be should also note: “I’m a cheap babysitter,” says Indelicato. “I only charge five bucks an hour.”

America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn not only support Hillary Clinton for president, they have assumed active roles as the national co-chairs of “HillBlazers” - the campaign’s youth outreach program.

This weekend, Ugly Betty star Ferrera, 23, and former Joan of Arcadia star Tamblyn, 24, are expected in Las Vegas as part of Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, an aide tells CBS.

Tamblyn calls Clinton “the only candidate who has the experience to bring about change. I’m excited to campaign for her wherever and whenever I can.”

Returning the compliments, the candidate said she was “honored” to receive the young actresses’ support.

“They are great role models for so many young women in our nation,” Clinton said. “I’m delighted that they will be joining us to help bring change to our nation.”

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera and High School Musical hunk Zac Efron were among the winners at the ninth Family Television Awards Wednesday night in Beverly Hills.

Ferrera, 23, who has accumulated Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards for her portrayal of Betty Suarez on the ABC series, won best actress while the show best comedy.

Efron, 20, won the best actor award for the Disney Channel original, which earned best movie musical honors.

ABC’s quirky Pushing Daisies snagged the best new series award while NBC’s Heroes won best drama.

America Ferrera hasn’t seen her father since he left the family when she was young and the Ugly Betty star says it took a long time to come to terms with his departure.

“It wasn’t easy, but as a kid you find ways to make sense of it.” Ferrera, 23, told British Marie Claire for its December issue. “I remember just bits and pieces of that time in my life, but I do remember being so incredibly matter-of-fact.”

The Emmy-winning actress, who is the daughter of Honduran immigrants, also opened up about her modest beginnings.

“My family never lied about the fact that we didn’t have a lot,” she said. “You just kind of have to play the cards you’re dealt.”

Her heritage also means she can relate to Betty Suarez, the character she plays in Ugly Betty.

“It feels good to be a part of a show that means more to people than just entertainment, and which confronts a lot of issues, like the portrayal of a Latin family with a father struggling for citizenship,” Ferrera said.

“Many people kind of see it as a pioneer show for their cause. Ugly Betty addresses these serious issues with humor, and that’s the easiest way to make people listen as opposed to being preachy and shoving it down their throats.”

How is Emmy-nominated Ugly Betty actress America Ferrera biding her time before the Emmy Awards on Sept. 16? By house hunting with her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Piers Williams.

The couple very recently began looking for a new home together, a friend of the pair tells PEOPLE.

“They’re excited about it,” says the source. “All that matters to them is that they are together and that they find somewhere private. They aren’t one of those flashy couples.”

Ferrera, 23, first met Williams, an aspiring director, at University of Southern California when he cast her in his student film. Together, they have a golden retriever named Buddy.
