How do you say “star-struck” in Italian?
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron are among the celebrities expected on the red carpet at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
The 65th annual festival opens August 27 with the out-of-competition premiere of Joel and Ethan Coen’s Burn After Reading, starring Coen favorite Clooney and his pal Pitt. (The pair also appeared at last year’s festival, with Clooney memorably debuting then-girlfriend Sarah Larson.)
Next month’s festival is expected to be Pitt’s first major public event since the birth of his twins with Angelina Jolie.
Other American films at the festival: The Wrestler, starring Marisa Tomei, Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel Wood; The Burning Plain, with Theron and Kim Basinger; and The Hurt Locker, an Iraq war drama featuring Ralph Fiennes.
Far from singing the blues over her recent romance troubles - Anne Hathaway is instead belting out karaoke songs.
Hathaway, 25, took turns behind the microphone at a karaoke session in Cape May, N.J. on Monday night. The Get Smart actress hit the Martini Beach restaurant on the Jersey shore with friends and family - feeling the need to sing Journey.
“She was the life and soul of the party,” said karaoke host Terry O’Brien.
Hathaway danced around the tables during other songs before retaking the microphone for K.T. Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See” (a song featured in her movie The Devil Wears Prada.
“Don’t put this on YouTube,” she told O’Brien.
Personal questions were strictly forbidden at the Italian premiere of Get Smart on Monday - but that didn’t stop one reporter from asking the movie’s star, Anne Hathaway, “Was the separation from your ex-boyfriend painful?”
The actress’s former flame, Raffaello Follieri, remains in prison, awaiting trial on a dozen counts of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering. And while Hathaway, 25, has continued with her publicity tour, she has steadfastly refused to discuss the split.
After the reporter lobbed the question, Hathaway remained silent and attempted a faint smile.
But, as if on cue, her costar Steve Carell valiantly stepped in to declare: “In my role of agent %26#91;for%26#93; Miss Hathaway, I would like to say that she does not answer questions relating to this subject.”

Anne Hathaway wasn’t there when her ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri was arrested - but her dog was.
The former couple’s chocolate Lab, Esmeralda, was staying with the now-jailed Italian businessman and his mother in Follieri’s Trump Tower apartment when FBI agents arrested Follieri on charges of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering June 24.
Agents left Esmeralda at home with Follieri’s mom, says FBI spokesperson Jim Margolin: “Dog not charged with anything.”
Hathaway, who split with Follieri earlier this month, has been traveling to promote her movie Get Smart. No word yet on where Esmeralda will wind up, but Hathaway has often talked about her bond with the pooch. “My dog is very angry with me right now,” she told reporters at a movie junket last year. “I just turned down a meeting tomorrow because I have to go home to be with her. She just wants her mommy and daddy.”
Spending misappropriated money on dog-walking services is one of the many misdeeds Follieri is accused of.
Instead of partying in Capri, Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri may spend his 30th birthday Saturday behind bars on charges of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.
Follieri remains in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center on $21 million bail. “We’re working on putting the bail together,” says his attorney Flora Edwards.
The Italian businessman reportedly had a big birthday bash planned on the jet-set island of Capri. Even if he does post bail, he will be confined to his home, with an electronic monitoring device and only be able to leave for medical, legal or religious reasons.
Asked if anything is ever done to help mark an inmate’s birthday, the officer responded with an emphatic “No.”
Meanwhile, Hathaway, 25, has been thousands of miles away: She promoted Get Smart in Mexico City on Wednesday and in Australia earlier in the week. She split with Follieri earlier this month, before his arrest Tuesday on charges he defrauded investors with a scheme to flip properties owned by the Roman Catholic Church.
Follieri’s next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 9, when a grand jury’s decision whether to indict him will be announced.
A jury trial could be tough on Follieri, says legal expert David Berg, author of The Trial Lawyer: What it Takes to Win. “He has really taken advantage of a lot of people. To do it with the cloak of religion is despicable. I think a jury would be very hard on him.”
Says Berg: “The best advice one would give this man is to start returning the money as soon as humanly possible and just say it was a mistake. It was all a mistake.”
Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri was hospitalized for a severe sinus infection following his New York court appearance on fraud and money laundering charges, his rep tells PEOPLE.
“He had an episode in the courtroom which lead to him being transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation,” rep Melanie A. Bonvicino says.
The Italian businessman, 29, is in stable condition and undergoing treatment.
“I do not have the specifics on what type of treatment at this time but %26#91;it’s%26#93; for a severe sinus infection,” says Bonvicino.
According to his rep, Follieri has had “a sinus infection for the past three weeks. In the courtroom they said that he had tested positive for opiates, and it’s not the case. He was on a prescription and cough medicine from his doctors that contained codeine before retiring to bed that night. Therefore that is what his doctors told me caused his urine test to be positive.”
At the hearing, the judge set a $21 million bail for Follieri, who faces a dozen counts of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering, and placed him under home detention.
Follieri, who split with Hathaway, 25, earlier this month, has yet to set bail. “We are working vigorously to fulfill the requirements of the bail package,” says Bonvichino.
Anne Hathaway appears to be coping well after her recent split from Italian businessman, Raffaello Follieri. She seemed perfectly fine at the premiere of her new movie, Get Smart, in Los Angeles Monday night, says her costar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
In fact, he wasn’t even aware that she’d broken up. “I had no idea that happened,” he told PEOPLE in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
The wrestler-turned-actor had nothing but praise for the 25-year-old actress. “She’s tremendously funny and charming and beautiful and intelligent - all the things that every guy looks for,” he said.
Johnson was in town for the annual Congressional Awards dinner, where he was being honored for the work his DJ Rock Foundation does with youth. The U.S. representative from American Samoa, Eni Faleomavaega, presented the award to Johnson and placed a Tu’ipapai, a traditional garland made of Paogo tree blossoms, around his neck. (The actor’s mother, Ata Johnson, who was with him at the dinner, is from Samoa.)
And the Scorpion King star seems to have come out fine from his own relationship woes. His ex-wife, whom he officially divorced last month, accompanied him to the event. She even got a special shout-out in his acceptance speech, when he called her “my beautiful partner, Dany.”
The two have a six-year-old daughter, Simone, who was also in the audience to cheer on her dad.
There is no stopping Anne Hathaway on a Big Apple media whirl - and emotional roller coaster - for her new film Get Smart.
Despite her recent split from longtime boyfriend Raffaello Follieri, the actress has been hitting the promotional circuit, appearing with costar Steve Carell on Wednesday night at the Apple store in Manhattan.
A few hundred people lined up for the event, which was moderated by Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert. Hathaway, 25, made no mention of Follieri and laughed throughout the evening.
The star was a bit more reserved during her appearance on The View on Thursday morning, which she pre-taped Wednesday before the Apple store appearance.
Cohost Joy Behar then asked, “Mood swings?” to which Hathaway replied, “Let’s not go there.”
When Anne Hathaway walked the red carpet for her movie Get Smart’s Los Angeles premiere June 16, she was all smiles on the arm of her costar, Steve Carell.
Nowhere in sight: Hathaway’s boyfriend of four years, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri.
The longtime couple are “for now, not together,” says a source close to Hathaway, 25. (The actress’s rep declined to comment.)
The split was first reported by Britain’s Daily Mail.
It has been an especially rocky few months for Follieri, 29, who is under investigation by the New York State Attorney General’s office, which has no record of IRS tax disclosure forms necessary for his charitable Follieri Foundation.
Last month, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office declined to prosecute Follieri after his arrest in April for allegedly writing a $215,000 bad check.
“They dated for four years,” says a source close to Follieri. “He loves her. He cares deeply for her. It’s a shame.”

First it was checks and now his charity is in question. Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, is under investigation by the New York State Attorney General, which has no record of IRS tax disclosure forms necessary for his foundation.
The Follieri Foundation, for which Hathaway at one time served on the board of directors, reportedly does such work as vaccinating children in Third World countries.
Follieri, 29, could not be reached for comment.
