TV father knows best - at least when it comes to approving boyfriends.
As Full House’s Danny Tanner, Bob Saget, along with the rest of America, watched Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen grow up in the shared role of his youngest daughter, Michelle Tanner.
These days the wildly successful 22-year-old twins make headlines for their fashion sense and their boyfriend choices. Mary-Kate has been dating N.Y.C. artist Nate Lowman, 29, for 10 months, while Ashley has been seeing National Treasure actor Justin Bartha, 30, for 5 months.
“I approve of anyone that makes my friends happy, and they’re my friends,” Saget, 52, told PEOPLE at “Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine,” a benefit for the Scleroderma Research Fund at Caroline’s in New York on Tuesday. “I am protective of the people I love.”
Saget’s former costars have shown equal support for his adventures in dating. “They’ve approved of my girlfriends,” he said.

There are no wedding bells in Ashley Olsen’s near future, according to her rep.
“Contrary to several tabloid reports, Ashley Olsen is not engaged to be married,” Nicole Caruso said in a statement exclusively to PEOPLE Wednesday. “Ashley is dating Justin Bartha and they are very happy.”
Earlier this week tabloid reports began surfacing that Olsen, 22, and Bartha, 30, are planning an elaborate $1 million wedding in the South of France.
In September, Olsen visited her actor beau on the set of his movie The Hangover in Las Vegas. Last month, they were spotted getting cozy over dinner at L.A.’s Sunset Tower Hotel’s Tower Bar.

• Ashley Olsen, joining beau Justin Bartha on the Las Vegas set of his new movie, The Hangover as
it filmed on the roof of Caesars Palace. “She was cute, laughing and
giggling throughout,” a source says. “She was wearing a headset and
listening to the whole production while Justin was shooting.” Between
takes, the two interacted, and Bartha would touch her face tenderly.
According to the source, he referred to Olsen as his “girlfriend.” While in
Sin City, the two stayed in a suite in the Augustus Tower at Caesars Palace,
and Olsen relaxed in the spa while Bartha continued filming.
• Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi,
joining a small group for a celebratory dinner on the patio of West
Hollywood’s Il Sole. “They’re so in love,” an onlooker tells us. “Doting Ellen
was seen feeding Portia a bite of tiramisu for dessert.” Nearby,
Kate Bosworth shared a girls night out with a friend,
splitting the Dover sole and bellinis.
• New Hollywood lounge Bardot opened its doors to friends for a low-key evening of old school tunes spun by Ryan Gosling and
a live band and burlesque show. The actor, looking dapper in black pants and
a white button-down shirt, played tunes from an elevated deejay booth while
guests enjoyed small plates of American bistro-styled food. A casual Catherine Keener chatted with friends near her table, while Brothers %26 Sisters‘ Emily VanCamp sipped wine over dinner with a
pal. Gosling seemed confident with his deejay gig, and later checked out the
live band in the neighboring room. The night ended with more tunes from
Gosling, including ’80s favorites like “Walk Like an Egyptian.”
• Vince Vaughn had the perfect dinner date while
visiting his hometown of Chicago - his mother! The actor stepped out to
Gibson’s Steakhouse for a meal with his mom while in town to support the
Chicago Cubs.
• How I Met Your Mother’s Alyson Hannigan and
hubby Alexis Denisof, sharing lunch at casual eatery Blue Plate in
Santa Monica. The two sat by the window, talking over lunch. “They kept to
themselves and were quiet,” says an onlooker. After they paid, the pair
walked out holding hands and smiling and headed down trendy Montana Avenue.

Want to date an Olsen? You’ll have to also impress her twin.
The famous sisters, 22, tell Oprah Winfrey that they have a say in each other’s relationships - at least to some extent.
“I just support her,” Mary-Kate Olsen says about twin sister Ashley in a new Oprah Winfrey Show interview set to air Thursday. “If she doesn’t like him, I won’t like him. If she likes him, I’ll like him.”
One guy who has likely made a good impression on Mary-Kate? Ashley’s current beau Justin Bartha, with whom she was recently spotted cozying up during an intimate dinner in L.A.
“We respect each other’s decisions,” adds Ashley.
Has it always been that way? Says Mary-Kate, “pretty much.”

• Ashley Olsen and boyfriend Justin Bartha, double-dating with another couple at L.A.’s Sunset Tower Hotel’s
Tower Bar. The foursome took a table in the middle of the restaurant, but
that certainly didn’t deter Olsen from cozying up to her beau. The two sat
next to each other, often holding hands and making plenty of eye contact. Over dinner, the petite starlet - who appeared to be in a great mood - sipped a martini and even fed Bartha bites of her organic roast chicken.
• Hayden Panettiere, causing a stir on Canon Drive
in Beverly Hills as she left the Thibiant Spa. After a facial, the Heroes star was greeted by more than 30 photographers who had camped outside. Panettiere
had to struggle to pass through the blinding crowd and slide into the driver’s seat of her maroon Porsche Cayenne. Even after she started to pull away, the paparazzi flashed their bulbs through the windshield.
• Tyra Banks, dressed casually
in jeans, boots, no makeup and her usual ombre Prada purse, waiting patiently in line for her
sugar fix at Magnolia Bakery on New York’s Upper West Side. After paying, she and a female friend
grabbed seats at one of the bakery’s communal tables and tucked in to their
desserts out of paper boxes.
• Ashton Kutcher, in a white golf tee and black
sweats, watching the homecoming game from the sidelines at L.A.’s
Harvard-Westlake High School. The actor, who is an assistant coach for the
school’s freshman team, chatted with coaches as a gaggle of high school
girls sat in the stands, giggling like, well, schoolgirls at the “amazingly
cute” actor. Earlier, Kutcher waved to his female fans by the locker room,
and they dissolved into a fit of giggles.
• Following his triumphant SNL hosting gig, Josh Brolin headed to the show’s afterparty at New York’s Wildwood Barbeque
with wife Diane Lane. “%26#91;They%26#93; were really cute,” says an
observer. “Josh was talking to everybody.” For her part, Lane sipped tea at
a back table, and stayed away from the action, while SNL castmembers Andy Samberg and Seth Meyers yukked it up one
table over. No sign of guest star (and Republican VP nominee) Sarah Palin, though. According
to a source, the politician planned to go, but pulled out of the bash at the
last minute.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are gearing up to take the literary world by storm - or at least glam it up a little - with their upcoming coffee-table book Influence, and PEOPLE has a preview of its two covers.
One version of the 272-page hardcover book - due out Oct. 28 - will feature Mary-Kate on the cover, with Ashley on the back, while the other version swaps their positions.
“Ashley and Mary-Kate take readers on a journey through their celebrated young lives, pausing to reflect on what has helped shape them into who they are today,” the book’s publisher said in a statement. “They interviewed 20 people and wrote brief essays about each other. In each interview, the girls explore what inspired the interviewee.”
Chimed in Ashley: “We have filled Influence with the most interesting, challenging, creative people we know - the ones who helped pave the way for us and our generation.”
The book’s artwork includes photos and drawings provided by the interviewees, as well as never-before-seen photos from the 22-year-old twins’ private collections.
A little bit country and a little bit rock and roll: that’s how the Olsen twins spent their 22nd birthday in Manchester, Tennessee.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen began their celebration on June 12, by exploring downtown Nashville’s Lower Broadway, where they stopped into The Wheel, a honky tonk bar, listened to the Rob Skaggs Band and drank diet Red Bull and Patron. “They were just having a good time with their friends,” says an observer. “Everyone was laughing and dancing. They all seemed very relaxed.”
On Saturday, June 14, the girls were spotted with their pals at the Pearl Jam concert, at the Bonnaroo Music Festival, dancing on the VIP balcony for three hours. Mary-Kate, dressed in jeans and a baggy flannel shirt, and Ashley, wearing a black hat and white shirt, jammed as the Seattle rock band played “Evenflow” and “Alive.” They never stopped dancing.
The twins capped off the weekend celebration on Sunday, June 14, when they left the Hermitage Hotel, wearing sunglasses, carrying armloads of bags, and, yes, one cup of Venti Starbucks.

It may be Friday the 13th, but it’s a happy day for Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen: They celebrate their 22nd birthday today.
Yes, it’s been more than 21 years since the twins first became stars - the California natives began sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House before their first birthday.
According to local news reports, the Olsens have been spotted in Nashville on their way to the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, Tenn. The lineup for the four-day festival includes performances by Kanye West, Metallica and Willie Nelson.
It’ll be a far cry from their last birthday: The multimillionaire moguls hosted a quiet family dinner party at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont that included their sister Lizzie, 20, and brother Trent, 24.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen can now add author to their growing list of professions.
The 21-year-old twins will pen a new book together called Influence that features artists and fashion designers who have inspired the savvy fashionistas over the past decade, Penguin books announced Wednesday.
Names set to be dropped in the book are Christian Louboutin, Lauren Hutton and Bob Colacello who have helped the twins pave their own way in business and fashion world. The twosome have designer clothing lines, The Row and Eliabeth and James.
The coffee table book will also include exclusive photographs of the Full House twins and never-before-seen materials as well as interviews from Mary-Kate and Ashley’s personal collections.
Influence will be published in the fall.
