Cate Blanchett’s husband Andrew Upton doesn’t mind the attention that comes with being married to an Oscar winner. “I quite enjoy it, actually,” he says.

Although the Australian writer-director, 42, has been cropped out of his share of photos when posing with the Elizabeth actress, he has maintained a realistic outlook on his wife’s A-list status.

“I’m never followed but Cate is. Her public identity is very associated with her work, which I think is good, right and proper because she’s bloody good at it. When her work is coming into focus, people want to see a photo of her carrying shopping bags,” Upton tells Britain’s Independent newspaper. “I can understand it - people are interested and I’m glad they’re interested otherwise they wouldn’t come to see it.”

“When you grow up in a country you’ve kind of got an investment in it,” Upton says.

And Upton, who is in London to bring over his second play Riflemind (to be directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman) from Sydney, says sharing a job with his award-winning wife has its benefits.

“It’s great. We’ve always worked together in a way. You have your odd, ‘no, no, no, we have to do this,’ but in the end you can say: ‘Oh, all right, I’ll fight for that next year, then,’” he says. “That collaborative approach is a really important part of theatre - it’s compromise that adds, not detracts.”

And baby makes five for Cate Blanchett and her writer-director husband, Andrew Upton.

Their third child, son Ignatius Martin, was born Sunday at a Sydney hospital, according to Australian magazine WHO. Just two days earlier Blanchett had attended her younger sister’s university graduation.

The couple, who are based in Australia, already have two sons: Dashiell John, 5, and Roman Robert, 3.

The Aviator Supporting Actress Oscar winner and Upton are currently co-directors of the Sydney Theatre Company - a career move partly made in the interests of her children. Elder son Dashiell, says his mom, “needs to be settled, and I respect that.”

And the new little one seemed settled, too - even at February’s Oscars. As Blanchett - with a very full belly - strolled the red carpet, she told PEOPLE, “He’s actually asleep - believe it or not, which bodes well.”

Presenter and nominee for Best Actress, the expectant mom seemed to reveal her unborn baby’s gender when she told PEOPLE, “He’s actually asleep - believe it or not, which bodes well.”

She took home a Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Saturday, which she dedicated to her I’m Not There costar Heath Ledger.
