Gavin Rossdale’s son Zuma is only 2 months old, but he’s already exhibiting a Zen-like personality that inspires his father.
“He’s super mellow, and at the moment very Buddha-like,” Rossdale told PEOPLE at BAFTA/LA’s Brittania Awards, where he performed Thursday night.
Still, Rossdale says Zuma has been a little bit fussier for mom Gwen Stefani than his older brother Kingston, 2, who was an even more blissed-out baby. “Apparently Zuma’s more trouble, but I thought that he was perfect all the way.”
Rossdale’s enjoying a career comeback with his first official solo album Wanderlust and the hit single “Love Remains the Same.”
Still, that success comes at a price. Being away from his kids leaves him “feeling a bit bad. Like, I left my son. He was on holiday and I left the older one to come here. So I feel bad leaving them.”
“I haven’t really written any songs about %26#91;my sons%26#93;,” he says. But Rossdale is happy that fans are responding to his softer sound. “It’s just meant a lot, really, because of your faith. You keep making records and people hear them. I love singing and making music and so I’m into the success.”
Performing at the Brit-centric BAFTA/LA event returned the London-born singer to his roots, something he maintains at home. “At my house?” he says. “Yes, for sure. English roasts. Good tea. What else do I bring? Irony. A lot of irony. A very dry, caustic humor. You might not get it, but just as you think you haven’t got it, it turns around and whips you.”
The one purely American thing he can’t do without? Grinning, he says, “My wife.”

Lunch with Kingston Rossdale is one of his musician dad’s favorite weekly gigs.
“I have so much fun taking Kingston out for lunch; it is something I look forward to on a regular basis,” Gavin Rossdale tells PEOPLE about his 2-year-old son with wife Gwen Stefani. “He really loves noodles. I think that has become his favorite food. We try to find new places to order them.”
Rossdale, 40, says that he takes Kingston out alone so
mom can take care of their 3-month-old son, Zuma.
“Gwen is amazing with Zuma and does most everything while I just hang out,” he admits. “Even though we share responsibilities with the kids, Gwen definitely does more than I do.”
So why don’t Gwen and the kids come watch Daddy play tennis with other stars like 12-time Olympic medalist Dara Torres, and comedians Billy Crystal and Chevy Chase?
“Gwen never comes because she doesn’t do what I do,” says Rossdale, all decked out in a handsome black tux. “She doesn’t play tennis or get ready for events quickly!”

Two months after giving birth, Gwen Stefani is showing off her newest bundle of joy: Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale.
The singer, who was spotted with the newborn at a Beverly Hills library on Wednesday, posed with son Zuma in a photo taken by her father, Dennis, and posted on No Doubt’s Web site.
“Gwen, Gavin, Kingston and Zuma are all doing well and enjoying being a party of four,” reads a message accompanying the photo.
“One is one, and two is 10. That’s all we know,” he joked. “%26#91;But%26#93; it’s not so bad. We’ve got it down now, you know.”
Older brother Kingston, however, is having a tougher time.
“It’s like, here is this guy, and he’s not leaving. %26#91;Kingston%26#93; is getting used to that,” Rossdale said. “Obviously, there are moments that he’s bugged out that someone is in his spot with his mom.”

Kingston Rossdale is still adjusting to life as a big brother.
“It’s like, here is this guy, and he’s not leaving. %26#91;Kingston%26#93; is getting used to that,” dad Gavin Rossdale tells PEOPLE about 2-month-old son Zuma with wife Gwen Stefani. “Obviously, there are moments that he’s bugged out that someone is in his spot with his mom.”
Rossdale, 40, joked, “His mom is great, so I agree with that. I just can’t complain about it. I think it’s just natural. That’s what happens.”
Rossdale spoke with PEOPLE at a VH-1 Save the Music Foundation benefit at Esquire magazine’s Hollywood Hills House, where he performed a 25-minute acoustic set of songs. Wife Stefani, 39, did not attend.
A Save the Music representative, Rossdale is easing Kingston, 2, into the family musical tradition. “He’s got good rhythm. So, I’m happy about that it. I don’t push him beyond that. I let him enjoy it,” said the rocker. “He listens to lots of music, he really enjoys it. He likes a good beat.”
And in other family news, the boys are ready to go with their Halloween costumes: “One’s an elephant, and one’s a shark,” said Rossdale. “Zuma’s the shark.”

What’s in a name? For Gwen Stefani’s newborn, Zuma Nesta Rock - plenty.
Take the unique first name: Computer game aficionados may remember Zuma, a popular 2004 video game from PopCap Games. Zuma required players to remove balls rolling around the computer screen by firing a colored ball at them before they filled up the screen.
A more likely name inspiration? Malibu’s famous Zuma Beach, a favorite destination for parents Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and big brother Kingston. The beach, famous for its surfable waves, was the inspiration for Neil Young’s album Zuma, making the locale a bona-fide musical landmark.
Marley’s home base of Kingston, Jamaica, was an inspiration for big brother Kingston Rossdale’s name, so it seems Marley themes are popular in the Stefani-Rossdale household.
Zuma’s second middle name, Rock, might be a nod to Rock Steady, the third studio album from Stefani’s band No Doubt. Rock Steady was primarily recorded in Jamaica and featured a reggae-heavy sound, rounding out the Bob Marley love for the musical clan.

They came, they saw, and still he didn’t conquer. Even though reigning Wimbledon tennis champ Roger Federer had buddies Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale screaming support during an epic final on Sunday, it was not enough to hold off hotshot Rafael Nadal in what has already been called the greatest final of all time.
But if they gave grand slam titles to spirited supporters, Rossdale would surely be crowned world champ. During a match that slugged on for nearly five hours on-court, Rossdale’s repertoire of fist punching, seat jumping and hollering boosted the energy level from the usually placid competitors’ guest box.
Federer and Rossdale have been friends for years - in the past, they have even been spotted playing tennis together in Los Angeles. Earlier in this two-week tournament, the tennis ace joined the Rossdales and their son Kingston, 2, as they went ape at the London Zoo.
During Sunday’s match a pregnant Stefani, wearing a red, white and black herringbone off-the-shoulder dress, had to remove her sunglasses as the light faded in the evening gloom for what turned out to be the longest final in Wimbledon history - and the first Spanish victory for 42 years.
If losing was hard for Federer, it appeared similarly painful for his famous fans. Moments after winning, Nadal leapt on top of a commentators’ box - directly in front of pop’s power couple - to embrace his family. While hundreds stood and applauded, only Rossdale, Stefani and Federer’s girlfriend, Miroslava Vavrinec, remained in their seats.
Roger Federer has some famous cheerleaders in the stands Wednesday at Wimbledon: Gwen Stefani and her husband Gavin Rossdale, took in the Swiss star’s match (against Robin Soderling) from a private box alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
And the famous friends have been spending time together away from the lawns of the All England Club. On Tuesday, Federer accompanied the Stefani-Rossdale clan - including 2-year-old son Kingston - to the
London Zoo, enjoying a day off after winning his Monday match against Dominik Hrbaty.
