Hilary Duff brightened the lives of some students in need at a Fort Wayne, Ind. elementary school Tuesday.
Duff, 21, visited South Wayne Elementary School as a part of a promotion for Blessings in a Backpack, according to the Associated Press. The nonprofit organization donates food to needy students between the ages of 5 and 11; the children receive food on Fridays to ensure they don’t go hungry over the weekend.
“I feel lucky enough to have a voice or a name that people might pay attention to,” Duff said. “I think that people might not be aware that a couple neighborhoods away, kids aren’t having food on the weekends, and we just want people to be informed and to know what’s going on in their communities and to help if they can.”

This is no Disney drama!
A divorce hearing between Hilary Duff’s parents began Wednesday with bickering about her upcoming 21st birthday party - and ended with her dad being lead away in handcuffs.
A Texas judge sentenced her father, Bob Duff, to 10 days in jail for contempt. (He was accused of violating a court order prohibiting him from selling assets without the consent of his estranged wife.)
As deputies handcuffed her ex, Susan Duff gasped and, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle, said, “This isn’t what I wanted.”
What did she want? The star’s mom was demanding $25,000 to fund a party and gift for Hilary’s 21st birthday on Sept. 28.
“I know he’s a millionaire, and he’s got the funds,” Susan testified earlier. She added that Hilary was “emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father.” (Ultimately the judge ruled that Bob had to hand over $12,500 for the bash.)
Neither Hilary - former star of Disney’s Lizzie McGuire - or her older sister, Haylie, were in the courtroom.
• Looking “completely enamored” with one another, Hilary Duff and hockey-player boyfriend Mike Comrie shared a romantic meal at West Hollywood’s Il Sole. Onlookers say the two were “super-affectionate” at dinner and noticed that the singer was wearing a gold-and-diamond band on her left ring finger, which she flashed for the cameras when leaving the restaurant.
• They don’t call him McDreamy for nothing! Patrick Dempsey, causing quite a stir among female diners at Katsuya Brentwood in Brentwood, Calif. Even though he attempted to keep a low profile, the ladies couldn’t help but walk past the Grey’s Anatomy star’s table - taking conspicuous glances at him before rushing back to their tables to discuss how hot Dempsey is in person. For his part, the actor seemed to be a good mood, laughing over sushi and sake with a male friend.

The pair met up with two other couples - and chatted together happily. Before showtime, Warren picked up popcorn and sodas at the concession stand, where his friend introduced him to actor James Franco. The Pineapple Express star - who was there with girlfriend Ahna O’Reilly - made it a double feature, taking in Vicky Cristina Barcelona after the comedy let out.

Move over, Miley Cyrus. Stars like Jennifer Hudson, Mariska Hargitay and Angie Harmon all stripped down for Allure’s annual portfolio of naked stars. And Editor in Chief Linda Wells is dishing the dirt on the birthday-suit shoots.
“Stars do get surprisingly rattled,” she told PEOPLE Wednesday night, during the magazine’s Most Alluring Bodies silent auction in New York City. And even though they didn’t all appear in Allure, nude portraits of Angelina Jolie, Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss and Scarlett Johansson were donated by photographers to benefit Skin Cancer Research.
“We’ve had some of the most gorgeous people with the most gorgeous bodies really have a moment of crisis when they have to drop the robe,” said Wells.
So have there been any major surprises during the nude photoshoots? “Some people haven’t discovered the bikini wax,” she said. “That was a shock. And that is a very expensive bikini wax when you’re %26#91;forced to fake it%26#93; with a lot of retouching.”
In this year’s portfolio, Allure also used strategically placed foliage to hide the naughty bits.
“Jennifer Hudson was really great,” Wells said. “But she had a moment where she was a little taken aback and she had to wrap her mind around it. And Angie Harmon was surprisingly nervous, but then she pulled it together. They know that we want a beautiful picture. But they still have to take that robe off - they’re still naked.”
One woman who’s not naked in May issue? Covergirl Hilary Duff. But the 20-year-old star did show her support during the auction at Splashlight Studios.
The actress hit the event with her boyfriend Mike Comrie, and the two even bid on one portrait - which Duff said would go great in the hockey star’s N.Y. pad.
“It’s a great picture of a silhouette of a woman,” she told PEOPLE. “She’s taking her underwear off.” (Alas, Duff was outbid.)
So she doesn’t mind her boyfriend checking out photos of naked women?
“Of course I don’t care,” said Duff, before jokingly adding, “Don’t stare at it too long!”
Hilary Duff, who knows better than most what it’s like to be in the public eye at a young age, is not passing judgment on Miley Cyrus for the risqu%26#180; photos for Vanity Fair
“Everyone goes through things and takes their own path,” Duff said Monday a press event for her new movie War Inc. “Who am I to judge decisions that she made?”
Still, Duff says she would not have chosen the same path for herself. “People are pushing you to do something, and if you want to do it, that’s your choice, you know?” added the singer-actress. “It’s not what I would choose to do, but if she did then that’s fine. That’s her choice.”
Cyrus, 15, has since expressed regret for the photo, which gives the appearance that she’s nude - although she is not. The Hannah Montana star told PEOPLE, “I feel so embarrassed.”
