Hayden Panettiere’s father, Alan, was released from custody on $50,000 bail Monday afternoon after being arrested for allegedly striking the actress’s mother.

Panettiere, 49, was arrested at 3:15 a.m. at the family’s West Hollywood home and spent about 10 hours in Los Angeles County sheriff’s custody. He was booked on a charge of felony domestic violence following a fight with wife Lesley Vogel, 52, deputies said.

On Sunday evening, the couple attended a Hollywood charity benefit for the Whaleman Foundation hosted by their daughter at Beso restaurant, and the pair were seen arguing.

An observer at the party tells PEOPLE: “When they were both about to leave, they had a heated argument outside the restaurant. They were doing a good amount of yelling.”

Hayden Panettiere’s father, Alan, was arrested early Monday morning at the family’s West Hollywood home for felony domestic violence, sheriffs confirm to PEOPLE.

“There was a domestic argument between the mother and father,” Sgt. Scott Wolf of the West Hollywood sheriffs said. “He got upset and struck the mother in the face one or two times on the left cheek which caused some bruising. From what I’m told, he hit her with a closed fist.

“The mother called police shortly before 3 a.m., and Mr. Panettiere was taken into custody,” Sgt. Wolf added. “He’s been cooperative. Earlier, they were at a party and the husband apparently felt disrespected by his wife.”

Wolf said that Alan Panettiere, 49, who has not yet given deputies his version of events, was arrested on the felony charge instead of a misdemeanor because “there were visible signs of injury” on 52-year-old Lesley Vogel’s face. TMZ.com first reported the incident.

Another sheriff’s spokesman, Steve Whitmore, tells PEOPLE, “I can confirm that alcohol was involved in the incident.”

Alan Panettiere is currently in custody, pending $50,000 bail.

Hayden’s rep says: “This is a private matter. We have no comment.”

There’s a new face at Dunder Mifflin: Isabel Lieberstein, daughter of The Office regular Angela Kinsey.

“Working moms out there - you have my utmost respect!” Kinsey, 37, who gave birth to Isabel in May, writes on her MySpace blog.

The new season of the show starts filming this month, so Kinsey, who plays uptight Angela Martin, brings Isabel to her trailer for a few hours each day.

“Can ya’ll imagine growing up with Uncle Rainn and Uncle Creed?” she says. “It’s going to be a lot of fun for sure.”

“I have so enjoyed just being home with Isabel these past three months,” writes Kinsey. “I know we all have different religious beliefs but it is hard for me to hold her and not feel God’s grace. She is by far the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Paul Stanley, the legendary co-founder and frontman for KISS, and his wife, Erin, are expecting their second child together, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

Erin, 36, an attorney, is due this winter.

“Erin and I are thrilled and can’t wait to meet our newest addition,” Stanley, 56, said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We’ve been extremely blessed and we’re excited to see what the future holds. I often joke that I’ve traded the Viper Room for the diaper room, and it looks like my tour’s been extended!”

News of the pregnancy comes as Stanley recently completed the European leg of The Kiss Alive/35 World Tour, which encompassed 30 sold-out shows in seven weeks.

Lynne Spears’s much-discussed new book is due out Sept. 16 - but the cover was unveiled Monday.

Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World is a memoir, describing Spears’s “story of what it was like being a mom and raising two very famous people,” a spokesman for publisher Thomas Nelson told PEOPLE in June. The tome will not be a parenting guide, as many had expected.

Spears’s memoir was intended for publication earlier, but was put on hold after daughter Jamie Lynn got pregnant. (Jamie Lynn Spears gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann in June.) Said the publisher at the time: “Lynne never stopped working on it because she wants to express her love for her children and tell their stories through a mother’s eyes.”

Fight Club just got a whole lot more real.

It turns out Brad Pitt really is a no-holds-barred fighter - as a member of the Australian Olympic boxing team.

The Aussie Pitt, 25, quit his day job as a painter to train as a heavyweight boxer for the 2008 Games. And while he still gets the occasional taunt about his name, he’s learned to put up with it.

“Mate, I’ve been living with that other bloke’s name for years, it doesn’t worry me at all,” he told Australia’s Herald Sun while practicing.

His mother said he found out about his more famous counterpart during elementary school, when a child brought in a newspaper clip about the actor during show and tell.

“He likes to be known for his talent, not his name,” his mother Leanne told Australia’s The Age.

“I’ve always been Brad,” he tells the Daily Telegraph. “Let him change his name.”

Kelly Ripa and Christie Brinkley caught Jonas Brothers fever Saturday when the heartthrob boy band performed in East Hampton, N.Y., at a concert benefiting the tony Ross School.

“Kelly and her kids are huge fans,” says a source who attended the $1,500-a-ticket fundraiser.

And how. When the event planner was looking for someone to help raffle off two guitars to raise money for the prestigious school, Ripa immediately stepped forward.

“Kelly said, ‘I’ll do anything for the Jonas Brothers! They have made my kids so happy! And I just want to be onstage to see what it’s like to be a rock star!’”

Also there were newly divorced Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook.

“It was his weekend with the kids so she came to the concert with her son, Jack, a half hour before doors opened and met the band,” said a source. “Then she left and Peter, who brought their daughter, Sailor with him, stayed at the concert with the kids.

Little Miss Sunshine star Abigail Breslin was another fan who couldn’t wait to see her favorite band.

“She is a HUGE fan,” says another source. “She was so excited to be there. She was swarmed by fans afterward who wanted her autograph.”

The feeling was mutual. “The Jonas Brothers wanted a picture of them with her. They are big fans of hers.”

Lindsay Lohan’s little bro, Cody Lohan, wanted a front row seat to see the band and got it. ”hen he came in, he pushed his way up to the front of the stage. Dina kept saying, ‘I lost him!’ Cody was having the best time.”

Kerri Walsh found one sure way to go for the gold at the Beijing Olympics - use a metal detector.

The American beach volleyball star lost her wedding band during a Sunday morning match as she went up for a block against Japan’s Mika Saiki and Chiaki Kusuhara, the Associated Press reports.

Although a metal detector could indicate where the ring was lost in the sand, the particles shifted considerably from the time of Walsh’s 9 a.m. match to the 3 p.m. search for the ring. Still, volunteer Song Zhendong dug up the ring after about 20 minutes of looking - and was due to return it to Walsh on Monday.

“It’s a plain gold band,” said Peter Paul Hreszczuk, the FIVB official manning the metal detector, “but obviously very precious.”

As for Walsh, whose husband is fellow beach volleyball pro and former NCAA champion Casey Jennings, there may be more gold to come. Having taken the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games, the 29-year-old California native and partner Misty May-Treanor are favored to repeat the feat in Beijing.

Meet the season 12 cast of The View.

Look familiar? Well, that’s because it is.

Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar will all be back to co-host the ABC daytime show when it returns Sept. 2 after a summer hiatus. But, for the first time, the five ladies have been photographed together. (Remember, Shepherd was a late addition to season 11 - and was never part of any of the show’s early photos.)

The photo shoot took place in New York - and the cohosts had plenty to do in between frames. The women danced to Tina Turner’s hit “Proud Mary” and Janet Jackson tunes. (Shepherd is a huge Janet fan.)

Between takes Behar also worked on solving a New York Times crossword puzzle, while Shepherd caught up on e-mail and Goldberg practiced the music and script for her role in Xanadu on Broadway.

The effects of old age won’t be a concern for Alanis Morissette.

Don’t count on seeing the singer, who says she “notices new things” about her body every month, searching for a fountain of youth. Instead Morissette plans to embrace her body’s transformation.

“I’m fascinated by aging and how a woman’s body changes,” Morissette, 34, tells Women’s Health’s September issue.

“I don’t want to spend the next 50 years of my life trying to hide those changes. There’s something very relaxing about watching it unfold instead of fighting it the whole way.”

While she watches her body evolve, Morissette has stayed physically fit by adding triathlete to her resume.

When she’s not flexing her competitive muscle, the self-described cross-trainer likes versatility in her exercise regimen. While touring to promote her new album Flavors of Entanglement. Morissette, a fan of kickboxing and dance, counts basketball and volleyball as her favorite sports.

“Doing the same thing every day is not right for my temperament,” she says.

In between triathlons and her music career will Morissette, who split from Ryan Reynolds last year, have time for marriage and a family?

Both are on her list of lifetime goals.

“I want to go to Laos and do a show in Russia and get married and have kids,” she says. “Maybe even adopt a kid. I’d like to live somewhere in the middle of nowhere for a while - maybe in a forest or on an ocean bluff.”
