Hollywood’s sardonic fashion designer Mr. Blackwell has announced his 43rd annual list of the Worst-Dressed Women of the Year, and 2002’s top pick is former Playboy pinup — now E! TV star and merry widow — Anna Nicole Smith.
“Anna’s fashion follies are the worst of the year,” said Richard Blackwell, 80, in a statement released Tuesday. (He is reportedly recovering from throat surgery.)
The effete Blackwell, born Richard Seltzer in Brooklyn, may have retired from designing, but not from proclaiming who needs to restock her closets.
“Don’t bother with a new designer Anna, ” he insists, “just hire a structural engineer.”
Smith, 35, was followed, in order, by the following:
Kelly Osbourne (”A fright-wigged Baby Doll, stuck in a goth prom gown”); Shakira (”Somebody should tell her those are probably Madonna’s old clothes”); Cameron Diaz (”Dressed by a color-blind circus clown”); Princess Anne (”Dreary, drab and dour”); “Interview with the Vampire” author Anne Rice (”A cross between Queen Victoria and the Vampire Lestat”); Donatella Versace (”Time to toss the peroxide once and for all”); Meg Ryan (”A total fashion wreck”); Christina Aguilera (”Let’s just call her the ‘Worst Undressed’ and leave it at that”); and Pink (”I’m seeing red”).
On the positive side, Blackwell saluted Reese Witherspoon, Debra Messing, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Jordan’s Princess Firyal, Renee Zellweger, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston for their senses of style, referring to them as his “Fabulous Fashion Independents” for 2002.

Male model Paul Sculfor - a.k.a. Cameron Diaz’s boyfriend - says he “bitterly regrets using cocaine” in a new interview.
“Apart from anything else, it made my hair fall out,” Sculfor, 37, tells the U.K.’s Mail on Sunday. “It started falling out in my partying years, because excessive cocaine abuse affects the adrenal system and halts hair growth. I’m lucky it grew back.”
Otherwise, the British model seems happy with his life - and looks. “I worked with Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen - all the supermodels,” he said. “Turning up to a party filled with Hollywood stars became a pretty normal experience.”
How does he keep in such good shape? By boxing, his childhood career ambition. “I love boxing,” he says. “I have a punchbag in my house in LA - I use it every day.”
One thing he won’t do: Botox. “There are male models who do, but I’m studying to be an actor and I want to be able to make expressions with my face.”

It was a dog day afternoon for Cameron Diaz, who took in an injured German shepherd Saturday afternoon.
“Cameron and a friend were involved in returning an injured dog to its owner,” Diaz’s rep Brad Cafarelli confirmed.
The actress, 35, cared for the dog at her Hollywood Hills home while her assistant posted notices about the found canine.
“Diaz brought the dog in her house and gave it some food and water,” said a source. “Her assistant posted a ‘found German shepherd’ sign and %26#91;the dog’s owner%26#93; - Diaz’s neighbor who was driving around the area - came across it.”
Later, the owner took the dog to the vet, and Diaz “made time to visit the vet where the dog was being treated,” the source added.
Olympic swimmer and model Amanda Beard swears she was just joking around Tuesday when she went on the air with 93.7 KRQ Tucson’s Johnjay and Rich in the Morning. Familiar with the crew, she mock-suffered through questions about her romantic life, specifically rumors that she’s dating Beijing Games hero Michael Phelps.
Asked point blank what their status was, Beard stated, “I am not dating Michael Phelps.” When pressed on whether they’d ever kissed, the 26-year-old used her best Valley Girl delivery to say, “Eww! No. Come on.” Then, when told that Phelps might dream about dating her, she replied, “Eww, that’s so nasty! … Come on, I have really good taste.”
Now Beard is catching flak for her flippancy - and she wants to set the record straight. “Everyone who knows me knows I can be a jokester, but I guess I took it too far,” the four-time Olympian tells PEOPLE. “I never meant to say anything rude about Michael. I am 100-percent sorry for what I said. I take full responsibility for it.”
For Phelps’s part, the 23-year told Extra that he has a celebrity crush on Cameron Diaz and insisted, “No, I’m not dating Amanda Beard. I’ll say that. I think she has a boyfriend.”
He would be right: Beard has been dating a photographer for the past three years. “He’s been here %26#91;at the Olympics%26#93; - he’s always with me,” she says of her boyfriend. “He’s totally fine with %26#91;the romance rumors%26#93;. This is just the way things go sometimes. But to Michael, I am so sorry for the things I said.”
It’s been a very good year for Will Smith. Not only is his Hancock a runaway box-office hit, but he also banked an impressive $80 million - making him Hollywood’s top money earner last year, according to a new ranking from Forbes.
Cameron Diaz is no victim of the current economic pinch, either. Making $50 million last year, the Shrek and What Happens in Vegas star was Tinsel Town’s top-earning female, reports the business publication.
Among others in the financial stratosphere: No. 2-ranked Johnny Depp, with a $72 million paycheck, and, tied for third place, Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, with $55 million each - even though Myers’s recent The Love Guru tanked.
And while Atonement leading lady Keira Knightley earned $32 million, and Jennifer Aniston pulled in $27 million, Forbes notes that, once the gold dust settles, men make twice as much as women in Hollywood.
In terms of media personalities, Oprah Winfrey still owns the bank. Her earnings last year were a staggering $275 million.
As for other TV stars, Charlie Sheen was the top-earning male ($20 million), while Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl - who’s also been stepping into big-screen roles - deposited $13 million, making her the top-ranking female.
