• Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, commandeering a couch in the back of West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont with a group of friends. Richie ate a salad and sipped on some white wine during her night out. She was enjoying her friends’ company when, according to an onlooker, Natalie Portman walked inside and took a seat on a nearby couch. (Portman had been laughing loudly over dinner on the patio.) The actress greeted Richie before slipping out through the crowded lobby. After Portman left, Richie and her friends relocated, bringing their party to the patio.
• Penn Badgley and Blake Lively, sitting together at an intimate screening of the rugby movie Forever Strong, in which the Gossip Girl actor sports funky facial hair. The pair whispered to other during the film, then took pictures with fans outside the Tribeca Grand Hotel, where the screening took place. Next up? An afterparty at the North Loft Penthouse of the Soho Grand.
• Rachael Ray, singing along and dancing as her husband John Cusimano and his band performed at a City Harvest charity event at New York’s Skylight Studios. When the star chef wasn’t rocking out to her hubby’s tunes, she chatted with party guests, including Chris Rock’s wife Malaak and Alex McCord from The Real Housewives of New York City.
• Meanwhile, Helena Christensen hosted her own charity event - for the Food Bank For New York City - at the Winston W%26#228;chter gallery, where she was never far away from her rocker beau Paul Banks. The supermodel auctioned off signed goods at the celeb-studded event (attended by Bono and Michael Stipe), which was sponsored by Belvedere. (See more stars and their indie-rock loves!)

Cate Blanchett’s husband Andrew Upton doesn’t mind the attention that comes with being married to an Oscar winner. “I quite enjoy it, actually,” he says.
Although the Australian writer-director, 42, has been cropped out of his share of photos when posing with the Elizabeth actress, he has maintained a realistic outlook on his wife’s A-list status.
“I’m never followed but Cate is. Her public identity is very associated with her work, which I think is good, right and proper because she’s bloody good at it. When her work is coming into focus, people want to see a photo of her carrying shopping bags,” Upton tells Britain’s Independent newspaper. “I can understand it - people are interested and I’m glad they’re interested otherwise they wouldn’t come to see it.”
“When you grow up in a country you’ve kind of got an investment in it,” Upton says.
And Upton, who is in London to bring over his second play Riflemind (to be directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman) from Sydney, says sharing a job with his award-winning wife has its benefits.
“It’s great. We’ve always worked together in a way. You have your odd, ‘no, no, no, we have to do this,’ but in the end you can say: ‘Oh, all right, I’ll fight for that next year, then,’” he says. “That collaborative approach is a really important part of theatre - it’s compromise that adds, not detracts.”
The Cannes Film Festival will be rolling out a red-hot carpet next month with Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett and Madonna all expected to promote movies and causes.
The surprise addition of Clint Eastwood’s The Changeling to the 61st edition of the South of France fest, May 14-25, sets the stage for a repeat of last year’s flashbulb-popping appearances of Jolie and Brad Pitt. Jolie stars in the film along with Amy Ryan and John Malkovich.
Johansson, Penelope Cruz and her heartthrob, Javiar Bardem, will promote the debut of Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, while Natalie Portman will be on hand in an official capacity as a member of the festival jury.
The most anticipated gala event is the Madonna/Sharon Stone match-up on May 23. The singer, who has produced a documentary on Malawi that is set to screen at the fest, will join Stone as co-host of AMfar’s annual AIDS research benefit dinner and celebrity auction.

And baby makes five for Cate Blanchett and her writer-director husband, Andrew Upton.
Their third child, son Ignatius Martin, was born Sunday at a Sydney hospital, according to Australian magazine WHO. Just two days earlier Blanchett had attended her younger sister’s university graduation.
The couple, who are based in Australia, already have two sons: Dashiell John, 5, and Roman Robert, 3.
The Aviator Supporting Actress Oscar winner and Upton are currently co-directors of the Sydney Theatre Company - a career move partly made in the interests of her children. Elder son Dashiell, says his mom, “needs to be settled, and I respect that.”
And the new little one seemed settled, too - even at February’s Oscars. As Blanchett - with a very full belly - strolled the red carpet, she told PEOPLE, “He’s actually asleep - believe it or not, which bodes well.”
Cate Blanchett, in flowing Dries Van Noten, was feeling “pregnant” Sunday on the Oscar red carpet, but says her baby wasn’t feeling a thing.
Presenter and nominee for Best Actress, the expectant mom seemed to reveal her unborn baby’s gender when she told PEOPLE, “He’s actually asleep - believe it or not, which bodes well.”
She took home a Film Independent’s Spirit Awards Saturday, which she dedicated to her I’m Not There costar Heath Ledger.

Ellen Page took top honors at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards, winning best actress for her role in Juno, but Angelina Jolie’s baby bump was the show stopper.
Page was up against Jolie’s A Mighty Heart performance and took everything in stride.
“I’m just trying to go along with it, staying with a friend, having fun,” Page told PEOPLE of Oscar weekend. “Just trying to remove myself in a way, and remember it’s about film … These nominations are a huge honor. It’s exciting.”
“I played running charades and drank tequila,” Page said backstage of her milestone celebration. “I had never tasted liquor before - what a funny, sharp taste.”
Jolie came with Brad Pitt, who co-produced the film. They did not do interviews on the carpet - though Jolie spoke volumes with a bump accentuated by her form-fitting black dress. And a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that they are “thrilled to be adding to their brood.”
Cate Blanchett won best supporting actress for her turn as Bob Dylan in I’m Not There, while Phillip Seymour Hoffman won best actor for The Savages, and Chiwetel Ejiofor won best supporting actor for Talk to Me.
Blanchett, who is expecting a baby in April, wore a flowy Vera Wang dress. She told PEOPLE she looked for a dress that was “something stretchy.”
She also paid tribute to her I’m Not There costar Heath Ledger, much like at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. “This is for him,” Blanchett said, to applause.
Meanwhile, Eva Mendes made her first public appearance since entering and then leaving rehab. She was a presenter and seemed in good spirits, clapping for host Rainn Wilson and chatting with Jada Pinkett Smith at the table they shared.

Leonardo DiCaprio could be a double winner at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards: His peers have nominated him as best leading actor in Blood Diamond and best supporting actor for The Departed, it was announced Thursday.
In contrast, he’ll compete against himself at the Golden Globes, where he’s nominated as a leading actor in both movies.
Also up for leading actor in a movie: Ryan Gosling (for Half Nelson), Peter O’Toole (Venus), Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland).
Leading actress nominees are Penelope Cruz (Volver), Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal), Helen Mirren (The Queen), Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) and Kate Winslet (Little Children).
Since the SAG Awards were launched in 1994, they’ve established a strong track record as an Oscar predictor. In the past years, SAG accurately called eight lead actor Academy Award winners, nine lead actress winners and half the supporting actor and actress races, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Up for outstanding movie ensemble are the casts of Babel, Bobby, The Departed, Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine.
For television, best drama ensemble nominees are 24, Boston Legal, Deadwood, Grey’s Anatomy and The Sopranos. Best comedy ensemble nods went to Desperate Housewives, Entourage, The Office, Ugly Betty and Weeds.
Sandra Oh, who stars on Grey’s Anatomy, tells PEOPLE she’s thrilled with the show’s nomination. “I don’t want to put a bias on it, but I think the ensemble awards are kind of the best,” she said Thursday. “To get a great ensemble together, that works well together is really, really hard.”
The SAGs will air live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. PEOPLE and the Entertainment Foundation will sponsor the official SAG Awards Gala after the show.

The British romance and war epic Atonement led the list of nominees announced on Wednesday for the Orange British Academy Film Awards, the U.K.’s answer to the Oscars.
The Golden Globe-winning movie picked up a staggering 14 nominations, including leading actor and actress for its young British stars Keira Knightley, 22, and James McAvoy, 28.
In the best film category, No Country and Atonement are joined by American Gangster, There Will Be Blood and last year’s Oscar winner for foreign language film, The Lives of Others.
Knightley is up for best actress against Cate Blanchett for her role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Ellen Page for her breakthrough performance in the teen pregnancy drama Juno, as well Golden Globe winners Julie Christie (Away From Her) and Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose).
Globe winner Daniel Day-Lewis’s critically acclaimed role in There Will Be Blood was recognized in the leading actor category. He’ll face competition from McAvoy, George Clooney (Michael Clayton), Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) and Ulrich M%26#252;he (The Lives of Others).
With the awards season in turmoil as a result of the ongoing writers strike, the Feb. 10 BAFTA ceremony could be the star-studded event of the year.
