She’s been in hiding since she announced her split with husband Robert “Mutt” Lange back in May, and last night Shania Twain emerged at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards.
The “Still the One” songstress ended up as the “major surprise” that everyone was wondering about as the awards show kicked off last night at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Presenting Kenny Chesney with the Entertainer of the Year Award, Twain looked gorgeous as she took the stage at the end of the night wearing a low-cut Missoni gown.
She told the audience, “It’s good to see all of you too. I hope to be seeing a lot more of you.” Former tourmate John Michael Montgomery told press, “I just hate the fact that she went through her trials and tribulations, and I hope that she comes back as strong as ever. If she puts her mind to it, you ain’t going to stop her.”

Tying Garth Brooks for the most wins in the most prestigious category, Kenny Chesney took home his third straight “Entertainer of the Year” trophy at the 2008 CMA Awards.
Held at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee, the show was hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley with a number of top-notch acts including a strong performance of “All Summer Long” by Detroit native Kid Rock.
Miley Cyrus teamed with papa Billy Ray, as well as Nicole Kidman and her “Australia” co-star Hugh Jackman, among many others.

She’s definitely a southern girl at heart, and Reese Witherspoon looked excited as she made her way down the red carpet at tonight’s 42nd Annual Country Music Association Awards.
The “Sweet Home Alabama” hottie was turning heads left and right as she sauntered into the Sommet Center sporting a partially see-through black gown with her blonde locks brushed aside.
But Reese isn’t just in the house to enjoy the show- she’s also scheduled to be one of the night’s esteemed presenters, along with the likes of Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, and Taylor Swift.
The CMAs also boasts a top-notch list of performers including Kenny Chesney, The Eagles, Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, and Trace Adkins.

The CMA Awards aren’t until Wednesday, but Kenny Chesney is already ready to knock fans’ cowboy boots off.
As preparation for his upcoming performance, the singer played a impromptu gig with legendary reggae band The Wailers at Tootsie Orchid Lounge in Nashville Monday night.
Word of the “commando show” had leaked to fans, who flooded the club to watch the award-winning singer run through nearly four hours of his own hits and reggae favorites that The Wailers helped popularize with Bob Marley. At one point, Chesney’s friend Kid Rock even joined in for a few songs.
Chesney’s biggest problem now may be trying to match Monday night’s show when he’s at the CMA Awards.
“We could hear %26#91;fans%26#93; making their way down the street on our bus after, and it was awesome,” Chesney said. “You know, hardcore country fans singing ‘One Love.’ Now that’s what I call making music universal.”

It’s a good day for Kenny Chesney, who received seven Country Music Association award nominations Tuesday, but it was newcomer Taylor Swift who had the best and most immediate reaction.
“I’m having a really good day,” said an otherwise speechless Swift, 18, who forgot she still had one more category to announce. “This is awesome.”
She is up for female vocalist of the year against veterans, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood.
Chesney, 40, coming off his wildly successful Poets %26 Pirates tour, is up for album, male vocalist and entertainer of the year.
Having won both entertainer and musical event of the year at the 2007 CMA awards, he is up against George Strait, Brad Paisley, Sugarland and Keith Urban for the highly coveted entertainer of the year.
It was also an awesome day for James Otto, a best new artist nominee.
Otto, who struggled after being dropped from his first record deal in 2004, scored a hit album, Sunset Man, this year, including a No. 1 song, “Just Got Started Lovin’ You,” on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
“This may take a while to sink in,” Otto, 35, told PEOPLE. “This is my second time around in this business so it’s even sweeter this time.”
The 42nd annual CMA Awards will be held Nov. 12, at Nashville’s Sommet Center.
Kenny Chesney is no stranger to stadiums - his Poets and Pirates tour has been packing sports arenas all summer long. But on his way to his New Orleans concert this Thursday, he hit the football field for real.
For the second year in a row, the country superstar lived out his gridiron fantasies by practicing with the New Orleans Saints in Jackson, Miss., according to the Associated Press.
Donning a white Saints game jersey with his name sewn on the back, Chesney, who is pals with the team’s coach, Sean Payton, ran plays with the team and caught a long pass from quarterback Drew Brees.
At the practice, which was open to the public, Payton told players they would get Sunday off if Chesney - who was a receiver on his Tennessee high school football team - caught a punt in two tries.
“On the first one, I totally blew it,” Chesney told the AP. “On the second one, not only were they offside, but they interfered with me.”
Luckily for the players, Chesney got a third try at redemption. As the ball landed in his hands, he juggled it - but refused to let it hit the ground.
Jubilant players whooped it up, including Reggie Bush - Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend - who winged a water bottle across the field in celebration.
“Reggie told me I better not drop the third one because he didn’t want to practice,” said Chesney.
Payton declared Chesney “part of our team” - an honor the sports loving singer embraced.
“I quit growing too young to ever think about getting to have a shot at playing in college,” said Chesney, “so this is about as much fun I can have.”
