Jenny McCarthy is not into making her love for Jim Carrey official.
“My whole thing on marriage is personal,” McCarthy, 36, told PEOPLE at Saturday’s Los Angeles premiere of Nickelodeon’s The Backyardigans Live: Tale of the Mighty Knights!
“I’ve done it. I’ve been there. My particular view on it is I don’t need that piece of paper of commitment to prove my love,” she says.
Meanwhile, beau Jim Carrey was back home sipping coffee, she said.
Even though the couple have chosen to forgo a wedding, she isn’t against the idea altogether - especially with the controversial Proposition 8 (seeking to overturn the legality of California’s same-sex marriages) about to hit state ballots Nov. 4.
“I think people should have the right - anyone - to get married,” says McCarthy, who later joined up with Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott (with son, Liam, 1, and McDermott’s son, Jack, from a former marriage) at the event.
“I do believe in the right to have everyone else be able to do it. I couldn’t imagine someone telling me not to do it because of my sexuality. I think everyone deserves to get married.”

Jodie Sweetin is taking the “rock ‘n’ roll” approach to getting back on the small screen.
“My husband and I are now shooting our reality show, which is going to be really fun,” Sweetin, 26, told PEOPLE at Saturday’s L.A. Confidential pre-Emmy party. “It’s following us and our new baby.”
Explained the former Full House star, “Kind of like a Tori %26 Dean vibe, but we’re a little more rock and roll. We’re a little edgier,” with a laugh.
Sweetin gave birth to daughter Zoie in April. The father is Cody Herpin, who Sweetin married in July 2007.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s reality show Home Sweet Hollywood follows Spelling and McDermott through their journey of parenthood.
One thing less certain is a home for the show, which is awaiting a network. “We don’t %26#91;have one%26#93;, we’re actually shooting it,” Sweetin says. “We’ve shopped it with several right now, and we’re still in talks or negotiations with two of them.” One of those networks is VH-1, she says.

Her legendary TV producer husband Aaron Spelling died in 2006, and her reality-star daughter Tori Spelling is on her own, so Candy Spelling has decided to live more frugally - in a $47-million, two-story condo in Century City, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The 16,500-sq.-ft. property is perched on the top floor of a residential tower currently under construction, and will be her new home after the lavish, 56,500-sq.-ft. estate where she now lives. That home - with its 11 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms - is Los Angeles County’s largest house.
And while Spelling had previous sworn she wasn’t selling the home she and her husband dubbed “The Manor,” her lawyer tells the Associated Press she is selling the house and downscaling her lifestyle after the death of her husband.
What’s life like for a new mom in 90210? Tori Spelling is ready to dish.
The actress, 35, is reportedly planning a new book - tentatively titled Mommywood, which will focus on her life as a Hollywood princess-turned-parent, according to publishers Simon %26 Schuster.
Spelling’s debut effort this year, sTORI Telling, spent seven weeks on The New York Times best-seller list - and included accounts of her ill-starred first wedding, her father Aaron’s death and the roller-coaster relationship with her mother, Candy.
She is “doing great,” Spelling - who’s currently starring in Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood and preparing to reprise her role in the new 90210 - recently told PEOPLE. And “little man” Liam is adjusting to being a big brother.
“At first he was unsure,” she said. “But now he gives her kisses goodnight. It’s really sweet.”
Tori Spelling’s beloved dog Mimi LaRue died Tuesday of natural causes at the age of 11, the actress tells PEOPLE.
“She was a star and a true lady, and she will be missed greatly,” says Spelling. “People everywhere knew her by name. I loved when fans wanted her over me. I felt proud!”
Mimi LaRue died at home surrounded by her family, including Spelling’s husband Dean McDermott, 41, son Liam, 1, and newborn daughter Stella, 10 days old. “I’m devastated,” said Spelling, who reveals her dog had suffered from medical problems relating to her hips and neck for years. “I’m convinced she waited around to make sure I had the daughter I always dreamt about before she left us.”
“She was not just a dog but a fashion icon and legend amongst Hollywood dogs,” Spelling says. “She received fan e-mail on a regular basis, and I often joked she got sent more designer clothes than me!”
Aside from being fashionably hip, Mimi LaRue was a true member of the family, rarely giving up a chance for a fine meal or simply relaxing in Spelling’s lap. “She was a loving pet and a true diva to the end,” says Spelling.
Sunday’s 58th annual Emmy Awards ceremony was a big night for first-time winners. After three nominations, Mariska Hargitay finally won her first Emmy, as leading actress in the dramatic series Law %26 Order: Special Victims Unit.
“When I named my son August, I had no idea that the month would end like this!” said the thrilled Hargitay - who, with husband Peter Hermann, welcomed their first child on June 28.
Kiefer Sutherland won his first-ever Emmy - after nine nominations - for best actor in the drama 24. Clutching his statuette, Sutherland said the win meant he’d be having dinner with his father, actor Donald Sutherland, who was also in the Shrine Auditorium.
He called his six years on 24 - which also was named best dramatic series - “nothing short of exceptional.”
The New Adventures of Old Christine star Julia Louis-Dreyfus took her second Emmy, this time for leading actress in a comedy series. Her first was for her supporting role as Elaine on Seinfeld.
As the first costar from that seminal sitcom to escape the “Seinfeld curse” and have a success with another show, Louis-Dreyfus said, “I’m not somebody who really believes in curses.” Then, holding up her Emmy, she said, “But curse this, baby!”
The Office, starring Steve Carell and based on a British sitcom created by Ricky Gervais, was named best comedy series.
Earlier, the Emmys took a trip down memory lane when Joan Collins, Heather Locklear and 7th Heaven leading man Stephen Collins kicked off a tribute to prolific producer Aaron Spelling, who died in June.
Melrose Place star Locklear said that the “warm, generous and loving” Spelling referred to her as his “lucky penny.” Dynasty diva Collins recalled meeting him when he was a struggling actor who was confident he would one day become a successful producer.
Spelling’s Charlie’s Angels - Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith - all teared up while remembering their starmaker, as his widow, Candy Spelling, wiped away her tears while sitting in the audience next to her son, Randy Spelling.
Daughter Tori Spelling was seated separately with husband Dean McDermott.
When the awards resumed, The Amazing Race continued its amazing run as best reality show, winning its fourth Emmy and beating such strong contenders as American Idol and Survivor.
HBO’s The Girl in the Café, a romantic character drama set against the G8 conference, was named best TV movie. Kelly Macdonald was named best supporting actress for her performance and Richard Curtis was cited for his direction.
